Despite the soaring temperatures in this seemingly endless summer, I’m not falling for it. Certainly not after last night, when I closed the curtains in my dining room for the first time since March. You can swan around in your shorts and t-shirts all you jolly well like. Why not spark up the BBQ and get the paddling pool out? You’ll find me inside laying a fire. You see, like it or not Autumn is here.
Ok it’s hot, but for every person basking in the sun, there’ll be one more muttering “oooh it’s chilly in the shade”. And the chill they describe isn’t the one we welcome in summer, the one that is banished by a lovely pashmina. No, this one is different, it’s of the “pass me my thermals” variety, said through chattering teeth, followed by an “ooohhh that’s better” once safely wrapped up. We must prepare for this transitional period by stuffing our bags and car boots with clothes to suit every conceivable weather pattern. Bikinis to bubble coats no less. Of course I am an expert in such things having holidayed in Great Britain quite a lot, and being in the Brownies of course.
Anyway all this talk of a chill in the air leads me nicely to our irresistible bedspreads and quilts.
