Can’t sleep? Lying awake in the early hours could actually be doing you some good…

Can’t sleep? Lying awake in the early hours could actually be doing you some good… Insomnia is a terrible thing. Extremely frustrating, exceptionally boring and utterly soul destroying. If you’re anything like me, it always throws up the same three possibilities. A little walk around the house. You read somewhere this will make you sleepy again, until you realise your mind is alert but your body is like a dead weight and couldn’t carry you to the kitchen if there was a freshly baked batch of chocolate muffins screaming to be scoffed. Finishing that chapter you started at bedtime but then realising that not only will you disturb the person lying next to you (who is cu..

Sleep well, think better, work best.

Sleep well, think better, work best. As we are now in the thick of exam season spare a thought for all those teenagers thrust into the midst of a stressful few weeks – and spare a thought for their worried parents too. I remember it well, the late night cramming, followed by a fitful sleep, followed by very little breakfast followed by a sweat-inducing, head-exploding exam! It isn’t pleasant so whatever us parents can do to help must be done. We might not be able to write their essays for them, but we can help our teens get more sleep, which in turn will help them put in a better performance on the day. Not to men..

A child’s good night’s sleep is vital! But vital for who exactly? As parents, we all want our children to have a decent, uninterrupted night’s sleep. It is drummed into us that such a thing is vital to their well being and we tell as much to our little ones. However, I fear our reasons for packing the little monkeys off to bed before we’ve even cleared away their dinner plates is hardly a selfless act now is it? I certainly wasn’t rattling through the multitude of sleep benefits as I was ushering Martha up the apples and pears last night. I was more concerned about missing Corrie.  I could hear the credits rolling as I was cutting my daily deal w..

What else happened in 2005 the year of our company’s birth? Quite a lot actually.. Birthdays often prompt us to reflect on the past. So as we celebrate our tenth year in business, I thought I would take a trip back in time, to the year when it all began for us.   It was the year when the final Star Wars movie premiered in London, complete with a regiment of Storm Troopers and Darth Vader, when Glastonbury Festival suffered record flash floods and Daniel Craig was revealed as the next James Bond. Oh and Take That got back together, minus Robbie… Here are a few more snippets from 2005. January – The world awakes still reeling from the effects of the recent Asia..

Sleep trouble? Spare a thought for the Scandinavians.

Sleep trouble? Spare a thought for the Scandinavians. I don’t know about you but since those pesky clocks went forward we’ve had a week of “I’m not going to bed yet, it’s still light!” followed by “can I have my breakfast now?” at precisely silly o’clock in the morning. We always notice a surge in business in the Little Lucy Willow accessories department at this time of year as parents attempt to make their children’s bedrooms a more attractive place to be. It’s a great idea and I’m all for it or course! A lovely new quilt? or a pretty cushion perhaps? Maybe a Daisy Brambles bed will do the trick? Ok maybe that’s pushing the envel..
