Breakfast in bed? It must be Mother’s Day!

Mothering Sunday. The day when theoretically we should all enjoy a lie in and take delivery of a sumptuous breakfast tray complete with smoked salmon, bagels, fresh coffee and a handful of wonderfully scented freesias, if they float your boat that is. The sun will cast a golden pool of light onto the scene as we nibble our morning treat in peace with only the sound of birdsong for company.

By the time we get up after our leisurely brekkie, the kitchen will be sparkling, the floor swept and the dishwasher whirring contentedly, leaving us nothing to do but lounge for a spell and watch the children play ‘nicely’ on the rug…

Of course, it might not all go according to plan. You may end up with eggs instead of smoked salmon, or you might have to make do with chrysanthemums should your other half fail to triumph in the annual supermarket scramble for the best Mother’s Day floral picks. God forbid!

Or…you might have to make breakfast yourself, wash the dishes, wade through a pile of ironing and polish the silver while you’re at it, against the backdrop of world war three taking place on the now Coco Pop stained rug. What’s new eh?

Whatever your Mother’s Day has in store, I hope it’s a happy one filled with love and treats galore.

A couple of handmade cards and great big hugs will do for me. They will surely make me smile more than all the smoked salmon in Scotland ever could. But if you happen to be offering…
