Who wants to get up on a dark, cold, misty morning? Certainly not me!

Get those big bad coats on folks, it’s literally freeeeeezing out there! These dark, cold days and even darker, colder nights make me want to be in one place and one place only - MY BED! I’m not one for lounging, I never have been but when it’s arctic, drab and...Monday...why on earth would I want to get up and embrace that?

I recently attempted various life-tweaks to get me out of bed in the morning.

Going to sleep earlier, not having that last glass of wine, I even researched and downloaded a new wake-up alarm tone on my phone. The super smooth piano number sounds positively gorgeous in the middle of the afternoon, just as its composer intended no doubt. But at 7 in the morning it might as well be the world’s biggest foghorn.

It sort of reminds me of the time I had my tonsils out. After being handed Corn Flakes and crispy bacon for breakfast, I politely requested some porridge instead thinking this might be more soothing to my tender throat. I might as well have asked for a bag of their sharpest razor blades...ouch.

In summary, all roads lead to one place. That roller-coaster stomach lurch when I realise it’s morning!

Considering this, when I do finally haul myself out of bed and go to wake the children - if they’re not already causing havoc that is - perhaps I should exercise a little more patience.

Their sleepy little heads poking out from beneath their beautiful bedding make it almost impossible for me to disturb them, but needs must. I start with a whisper in their ear followed by a gentle tickle on the cheek. And if that doesn’t work then it’s full-on morning ’Mum’ voice I’m afraid. Harsh but effective. Despite this rude awakening they do seem to get up with a spring in their step and may even manage a few handstands or dance moves before they’ve reached the bathroom. Weird.

You’d think we’d have this sleeping and waking business sewn up and sorted but despite doing it every single day we never quite get it right. The tiny ones won’t go to bed and the teenagers won’t get up. It’s a lifelong struggle which Little Lucy Willow goes at least some way to help you with.

Our children’s beds are just about gorgeous enough to make bedtime seem inviting, solving the first half of your problem. As for the other half - your sleep-loving teen - there’s only one possible solution…

Full-on ‘Mum’ voice at the ready!
