Redesigning Your Child's Room Around Their Study Space

Getting your child to do their homework or study can often be a difficult task. Children can be easily distracted and full of so many excuses. But creating a space that gets their creativity and their focus flowing, while also feels calming, can help to ease the studying and homework task. This, in turn, may just lead to better school performance and improved learning so it is worth investing in your child’s study space.

So designing a study room that your child will actually want to stay and study in is highly beneficial and is easy to achieve. This article will look at how to best redesign your child’s bedroom to create a flourishing study space for them.

Functionality

Nothing sends a child running from studying faster than not having a comfortable place to sit and focus. While children's beds are great for comfort, they're not so great for studying. Therefore, the two key elements of a study space are a good desk and chair. The design of the desk and chair should be comfortable and promote proper posture. There are many varieties of desks available on the market so you can find the perfect one to suit your child’s space - such as wall study units, writing tables for kids, themed desks, corner desks, roll-top desks, fold-away space saver desks, and more. You should also invest in a strong and durable study chair for your child. The chair you buy must support your child’s back and also pair well with the style, material, and height of their desk.

Additional furniture pieces to create a functional and stimulating study space in your child’s bedroom room may include storage, shelving, or drawers - dependent on the room’s layout and your needs. The functionality and layout of the space should be efficient and include a work area that can accommodate both you and your child or a potential tutor to assist them. To help foster focus, it is ideal to have a dedicated and quiet workspace with minimal distractions, like technology and toys. The success of your study space will be highly dependent on focusing its designation on homework and not on playtime activities.

Lighting

Lighting is a crucial practical element to creating a great study space for your little one, as they will be spending many hours in the space working. Try to make the most of natural lighting by choosing a space that has a window near it. This will fill their study area with natural sunlight during the day, which is good for your child’s eyes and has other health benefits too. However, keep in mind to not position their desk directly against sunlight as this could be too bright and distracting. When it comes to artificial lighting, be sure to install lights that are neither too dull nor too bright. To ensure optimal focus, you could also add a table lamp/desk lamp to the study area. Table lamps are not only highly practical, but they are also available in attractive designs which will enhance the overall look and feel of the study area.

Colour

Colour choices for your child’s study space should create feelings of tranquillity and happiness. Colour plays a very large role in exuding emotions and encouraging your kids to feel comfortable and engaged while in the space. According to colour psychology, certain shades can affect children positively and lift their mood. So choose your colours wisely, opting for ones that stimulate the brain and increase focus. Avoid tones of beige and grey. Green can help children focus, while bright colours like orange can boost their mood. If you are wanting to create an energizing setting, opt for shades of red or yellow. Blue, on the other hand, is known to be a soothing colour.

Personality

Whether you are an adult or a child, it is beneficial for your workspace to reflect your interests and style. A child’s study area should be functional and organized, but also speaks to your little one’s personality. The overall decor of your little one’s study space should foster creativity and prioritise comfort while maintaining a functional and youthful look that can last. Accessories and fun decor can make even simple and not-so-great study areas look amazing. But try to keep the decor practical and functional to avoid a cluttered look and feel. Penholders, desk organizers, and bins are must-have study area accessories as they encourage children to stay organized and clutter-free. Bringing elements of nature through decor and prints inside the room can create an uplifting feel.

We hope this article will help you to create a little world out of your child’s bedroom where they can study, read, write, and grow!
