It’s summer and the heat the hunt is on!

So school is out, the sun is too (sometimes) and you’re wondering how to entertain the children while you get all those pesky jobs done? You’ve already been to the park four thousand times and you’ve ticked all the standard beach, zoo and museum boxes. So what’s left?
Well I’ve got an idea. I know it involves some forward planning and a little imagination but how about a treasure hunt?
If it’s nice and sunny you can arrange it in the garden, if not, use the house. If you really want to go to town, why not include both? You could even get your Little Lucy Willowplayhouse in on the act too.
Now, you might be thinking that reading this blog is rather like watching an episode of Blue Peter. You can see the appeal in the ‘wire coat hanger pom-pom mobile’ idea but you’ll never be doing it yourself in a million years. I get it. But think about those little faces, the joy, the giddiness and the screams of delight when they finally discover their prize!
From experience, I am pretty sure that most children care less about the actual treasure and more about the hunt. I recall using little boxes of raisins once and it went down a treat (last of the big spenders eh?). They just desperately want to solve the clues and are so proud of themselves when they do. My point being, lack of decent prizes is not an excuse to swerve this activity!
So dust off your pencil and start creating your treasure map and clues. The more the better.
If you are simply devoid of ideas and need a nudge then why not try this sensory treasure hunt, or buy your own personalised Treasure Trail in the region of your choice? Go on, tick that box. The kids will love it – and so will you when you’re savouring that longed for undisturbed cuppa!
