Who said romance was dead? Mummy Willow did. Almost…

So, for all you mums out there, married, bored and hoping to be swept off your feet this Valentine’s Day…Here’s an ode to you.

Valentine’s Day is a funny old time,

We get flowers and cards with a cheap tacky rhyme.

It should be romantic, it should be the best!

But I just can’t get frisky when I see that string vest.

I decide that our love needs a kick up the bum

So I think about what we could do for some fun,

I write a long list, I re-do my hair,

Then hope that his Lordship will notice, or care!

“Let’s go on a date! Let’s have a nice meal.”

With the young blushing couples? no thanks, get real.”

“Let’s light lots of candles, as though we’ve just met,”

“But we’ve not, and besides all the matches are wet.”

“Oh you’re such a spoilsport, you’re such a grouch!

All you ever do is sit on the couch!

I’m fed up, I’m going to find ‘Mr Grey’…

At least he might see me” (I’m dreaming, but hey?)

He leaps to his feet with a ‘look’ in his eyes,

“Don’t go, it was going to be a surprise,

I’ve ordered Thai food and a bottle of white,

It’s a Marlborough, your favourite, did I get that right?

I’m sorry that I’m not a hopeless romantic,

That we are not flying first class o’er ‘t‘Atlantic.

The truth is I LOVE you!” There’s a tear, then “n’stuff”,

At that, my heart melted and that was enough.

If you are lucky enough to be treated to a takeaway by your loved one this Valentine’s Day  or even a slow dance (I know, that’s pushing it a bit), here’s some inspiration. I give you…
