A handmade bed isn't the only thing that will help your little one get to sleep...
I can’t quite believe it’s October already. Driving into work this morning I noticed the trees beginning to turn. Against a clear cobalt sky it was a sight to behold! Listen to me getting all poetic. Anyway I took a photograph of the glorious horse chestnut outside Heskin Hall, just next to our showroom, so you could share in its delight!         So back to the business of children’s furniture, or children’s sleep habits to be more precise...I read an article this week about super sleep nanny, Lucy Shrimpton, who professes to have some prize ideas on how to get your children..
Watch out there’s a pumpkin about!
COMPETITION NOW CLOSED   Ok, so Halloween might be a few weeks away yet, but we couldn’t resist launching our spook-tacular competition to get us all in the mood for mischief.   We have hidden a pumpkin somewhere on our website and to be in with a chance of winning one of these beautiful Little Lucy Willow bedspreads, all you have to do is find it!           When you do seek out the pesky pumpkin email us at [email protected] and tell us its whereabouts, along with your name. You have until midnight on October 31st to enter.   We will rand..
How can beautiful handmade children's furniture help with the homework?
Now that school is back in full flow and evening activities are too, our days are packed with car journeys, clubs and homework. As predicted in our house, study and commitments have escalated this year to such a degree that I am struggling to do my motherly duties and cram it all in!   However, my latest purchase for Martha has proved a winning idea. No, it isn’t a personal tutor, or a nanny or a maid (although I could do with all three). It is a simple bedside table.       I am amazed at what a difference this small, unassuming piece of children’s furniture has made to o..
If you are hoping to read about beautiful children's furniture, don't read this.
This week I was invited to a wedding which got me thinking about my own nuptials all those years ago...I recall being madly in love. How amazing it would be as we faced the years together, hand in hand, cheek to cheek!   I was incapable of imagining life without my wonderful, funny, gorgeous, caring, romantic man.       Fast forward to the present day and mysteriously, I am finding it much easier to picture the same scenario...Hmmm. Don’t get me wrong, I still love my husband very much, but am more excited by spotless worktops and an empty washing basket these days. His ..
Handmade to order painted children's furniture - The keystone to creating a picture perfect bedroom.
When you decide to revamp a child’s room, it can seem like an overwhelming task. After weeks of building yourself up to getting started, you gingerly open the door with the best intentions but having cast your eye over the mountainous mess, promptly close it again. Aaaaand breathe!   Children seem to accumulate so many useless things, so many small things and so many things that don’t seem to belong anywhere in particular. The latter usually reside in a pile in the corner, get crammed under the bed, or stuffed in a drawer and forgotten about forever! Bouncy balls, slinkies, paint-you..
Perfect endings and new beginnings...
At this time of year, you will often find me in reflective mood. In a few days time I will drive away from school on the first day of term, with the rain lashing down onto the windscreen no doubt, thinking about endings and beginnings.   The summer is ending and the new term will begin. I will reminisce about our recent happy holiday and wish we were still there, on the beach. As a mother, there is nothing more heartwarming than seeing your children having fun. Laughing, running, playing and exploring as mine did on our Scottish retreat. I think, I hope, they had the carefree summer I re..
What is handmade to order in the UK, will last you for decades and be used every day?
You can buy a bed on the high street for a little less than we charge at Little Lucy Willow, but will that bed be up to scratch? It might look similar but will it ooze quality, be hard-wearing, prove durable and strong? Will it be a real piece of craftsmanship that you will delight in for decades to come?   Ask yourself:   How long will a high street bed last?   We can’t possibly answer that but we do know that a Little Lucy Willow bed is made from far superior materials to imported goods. All our timbers are hand selected twice, once by the pickers and again by t..
Did you know that our furniture is handmade to order by master craftsmen here in the UK?
Summer presents a great opportunity for us to revel in our many British traditions. To me, it means strawberries and cream, Wimbledon, The Proms and erm, cheese rolling amongst other interesting eccentricities.   We love and delight in them all. Homegrown and timeless, ever present and never ending. They existed when we were children and will continue when we're long gone. Rather like a Little Lucy Willow bed in fact...     Hand made to order in the UK, our children's beds are everything you would expect and probably much more. That's why our furniture bucks the trend. Some ..
Comfy beds for sleepy heads...
After visiting relatives this weekend we endured a nightmare journey home, taking no less than 14 hours...We arrived at our front door shortly before midnight on Sunday. No roast dinner for us, only snacks in the car. No watching ‘Fake or Fortune’ with a glass of red whilst admiring Fiona Bruce and her increasingly futuristic wardrobe. ‘A’ roads and crazy diversions saw to that. It was a very, very, VERY long day. The children were bored to the point of playing ‘I spy’ on the motorway for the 159th time, which, when you’ve done cars, roads and central reservation (they did learn something I su..
Beautiful children’s storage makes for beautiful tidy bedrooms.
When the sun comes out you want to be outside with it. The trouble is, more often than not, there are other things to do...work? washing up? the dreaded ironing perhaps?   If you’re anything like me, when there are jobs to be done you can’t just sit around and be all ‘chillaxed’ (as they say...). You want to enjoy the nice weather, but you just have to do those jobs. Otherwise you’ll be lying on your lounger, tapping your fingers, ‘casually’ humming and mentally planning how you are going to attack said jobs once the sun has gone in (deep breath) therefore willing the sun to go in so yo..
