Monster’s eyeballs! It’s almost Halloween!

Why couldn’t Dracula’s wife get to sleep? Because of his coffin. Monster’s eyeballs! It’s almost Halloween!

“Half term, ooohh, how nice it will be to have a few lazy mornings in bed”, I mused. What a treat not to have to run around at the last minute, up and down the stairs 150 times as I repeatedly forget what I’ve gone upstairs, or indeed back downstairs, for. It was a nice idea. However, thanks to those pesky clocks the children were up with the lark and dragged me along with them.

And there’s me thinking these winter days are supposed to be shorter…

At least I’ve got plenty to do. With Halloween just a few days away there are pumpkins to be carved and costumes to sort. I have also discovered lots of very simple Halloween crafts to see us through should the weather turn nasty. Don’t worry, they only involve the most basic of apparatus. Leaves and toilet rolls to name but two. Now that’s my kind of cutting and sticking. Oh and we also decided to transform a portion of our never-ending stash of conkers into mini pumpkins. I have to say I rather enjoyed that and found myself hogging the paintbrush on occasion.

There’s hope for me yet! I am feeling surprisingly organised.
● I have a cupboard full of sweets at the ready for any trick or treaters, which might need
replenishing before Friday come to think of it – I just can’t resist those monsters eyeballs!
● I have dragged the costumes out, shaken them off and tried them on the children. The
witches outfit is a little on the short side if I’m honest, but who cares when there are
black and orange stripey tights covering those little legs?
● The pumpkins are primed for carving into evil toothy grins, providing the knife doesn’t
slip and instantly transform them into friendly old grandads.
● I have a small forklift truck in position to collect the massive confectionery haul.
● A packet of industrial-sized baby wipes has been sourced for the mammoth task of face
paint removal – not to mention those sticky fingers!

Ok now that’s sorted, don’t forget to tell your little ghosts not to ‘spook’ until they’re ‘spooken’ to!
Happy Halloween!
