Little Lucy Willow

From cot bed to big bed with Barney and Boo.

From cot bed to big bed with Barney and Boo. January is nearly over and hopefully our collective blues will soon be gone along with it! Talking of which, I’ve never understood why we named these unwelcome feelings after such a beautiful colour. If you ask me, they should have been called ‘the browns’ or ‘the mauves’, or better still ‘the fawns’! Here at Little Lucy Willow we have been enveloped in the pretty shade of seaside blue from our beds to our drawers thanks to the Barney and Boo exclusive collection, which is currently on offer. And we couldn’t be happier for it. In fact, I would recommend it to anyone! Am I selling this..

Barney and Boo save tidy mum from storage meltdown.

Barney and Boo save tidy mum from storage meltdown. Everyone needs storage, whether you’re a minimalist maniac or not. We’ve all got keys, paperwork and general paraphernalia we don’t quite know what to do with. The kind of stuff we don’t really want to keep but annoyingly, feel like we have to as it might be useful one day…So despite everything, we grudgingly stuff all those leaflets from school, along with the instructions to the microwave, into a drawer, or in the magazine rack or behind the utensil jar in the kitchen. And then we forget about them… It’s much the same with my children. At one time, there were brand new toys i..

Ten things I bet you didn’t know about us.

Ten things I bet you didn’t know about us.   1. We love a bit of country music here at Little Lucy Willow and are listening to Laura Cantrell in our office this week. “Two seconds of your time…is all I need of you…” Love it. 2. Which leads me nicely to number two…I once sang in a band and my stage name was Louisiana Lou. Make of that what you will! 3. Our very own little Lucy Willow, after whom the company is named, is also a talented singer (‘extremely’ as opposed to my ‘arguably’) who narrowly missed out on winning the title role of Matilda in the West End production. She made it to the last six… 4. Heskin Hall..

What do you look for in a child’s bed?

What do you look for in a child’s bed? When choosing a bed for your child, I’m guessing you might have a tick list. Perhaps it includes things like comfort, style, size and longevity. Basically, you’re looking for a bed that your child will love climbing into each night and will stay there tucked up until morning (with any luck!). You’re looking for a bed that will last many years but will still look as good when your child is leaving home as the day you bought it… When finding furniture for our own daughter, we had the same few things in mind. In the end we decided to start our own children’s range which ticked all..

Can’t beat the blues? Join them with Barney and Boo!

Can’t beat the blues? Join them with Barney and Boo! Way-hey! It’s a new year and a new start. In theory, this means we should all be upbeat and positive, looking ahead to the great things 2015 has in store for us. Will this be the year we win the lottery? Find the man of our dreams (for those who haven’t already)? Or achieve unadulterated happiness and inner peace? Probably not, but we can dream! Most likely we will spend the first month dieting furiously, battling to get into the oversubscribed gym wearing variations of garish lycra and avoiding all eye contact with alcohol should we fail in our quest for a “dry January”. Why m..

Little Lucy Willow wishes you all a Happy New Year!

Little Lucy Willow wishes you all a Happy New Year!   Well hello again! It seems like ages since my last post but I suppose that’s Christmas for you. We’re all in that vortex of “the eighth day of the week” when nobody seems to know whether it’s Wednesday, Sunday, breakfast or bedtime. Luckily, whatever time of day or night it is, a nap or a bowl of trifle always seems appropriate for some reason. I have had far too little of the former and much too much of the latter as it happens but I’m hoping the balance will have been redressed by the time normality resumes… So how was your Christmas? Mine was hectic but lovely and I ..

Think you’ve got all your stocking fillers? Look here and think again…

Think you’ve got all your stocking fillers? Look here and think again… The shops are a-bustling, the streets are a-twinkling and we’re all now counting down the days. I think I have broken the back of my Christmas shopping and am feeling in a calmer place because of it, (aaaaand breathe) but there is still so much I could buy! It’s the stocking fillers that I can’t resist. Anything sparkly, knitted or fairy-ish and it’s in my basket faster than you can say bouncing baubles. The trouble is, I don’t have to go too far to find such items as they are under my nose every single day in our lovely showroom! It’s not like I can ignore the garden fa..

We all love a bargain that’s why we offer the best possible prices all year round.

We all love a bargain that’s why we offer the best possible prices all year round.   Full on fisticuffs, comedy tugs of war and a bit of wrestling thrown in for good measure? No, this wasn’t the “It’s A Knockout” Christmas special. This was Black Friday. Another nonsense idea stolen from America which turned out only to expose the greedy stop-at-nothing ones amongst us. There are few things more annoying than buying an important purchase only to discover days later that the price has been slashed by 50%. Grrrr. This, in part, is why we didn’t participate in Black Friday. This crazy event is so called as the day retailers start turning a profit, crossing from t..

Great glass baubles! It’s nearly Christmas!

Great glass baubles! It’s nearly Christmas! Growing up we never decorated our Christmas tree until mid-December at the earliest. It was simply THE best day of the year, better than Christmas day itself! I loved standing at the foot of the stairs watching dad wrestle with the familiar dog-eared box full of ancient decorations. They were like old friends who we really could not wait to see! The smell and touch of the tinsel and its balding bits with last year’s sellotape still attached, sent my stomach in a spin. I loved digging out the several-times-repaired concertinaed golden ‘thingy’ that mum would stretch from one corner..

Never get what you really want for Christmas? Join the club.

Never get what you really want for Christmas? Join the club. Christmas shopping is no longer something we’re just talking about. We are now actively doing it. Panic mode hasn’t quite set in but give it a couple of weeks and we’ll all be in the thick of it, despite swearing blind that we were going to be more organised than ever this year. It will be elbows out, shoulders forward as we wade into town en masse. Unless you decide to do it online of course, starting at Little Lucy Willow! I always go Christmas shopping with the best of intentions, I really do. “I’ll be home by lunchtime, done and dusted.” I never factor in the inevitable ‘de..
