Help is at hand for your child’s sleep problems.

I have long been a really light sleeper. It all started when I became a mum for the first time. It can be quite handy, to be able to wake up at the drop of a hat when the children are crying, snivelling or have fallen out of bed. It can also be pretty annoying too.

I have spent many nights lying awake watching the clock strike hour after hour until I eventually fall asleep not more than 30 minutes before I have to get up. When the alarm does go off I feel like a dead weight, like someone has filled my arms and legs with cement during my two second doze and glued my eyelids shut for good measure. It’s a nightmare – without the sleep that is.

So when I heard that a sleep advice app had been invented by some bright spark (who must be getting a damn sight more shuteye than I am incidentally), my ears pricked up. Until I found out it was for children…Still, I thought you might be interested should your nights be peppered with little ones sleepwalking, screaming, or worse.

It’s hoped the new app, Kids Sleep Doctor, will help some of the 2 million parents struggling with troubled child sleepers and ease pressure on the NHS too. All you do is enter a few details about current sleep habits, keep a sleep diary and wait. After five days you will start to receive advice, tailored to your child.

Designed for children aged 0-16 years and launched by doctors at the Evelina Children’s Hospital in London, it is already flying off cyber shelves.

Imagine it, your own personal sleep expert on hand at all times to guide you through those horrible, never ending nights when you feel like morning will never come and the sun has disappeared into another cosmiverse all together? Who’d a thunk it eh?

Of course, as well as giving you this information I should also mention that a really good bed and decent, quality, pocket sprung mattress (both preferably made to order here in the UK) are conducive to a good night’s sleep too…
