Pyjamas all the way for our world book day…

So, this week it was World Book Day. And if you didn’t know that you must have been lying in a dark room with the curtains closed playing candy crush for the past fortnight. Anyone with children, or who has friends with children, or knows children that live in the next street, or even the next town, cannot fail to miss this yearly phenomenon.

When the letter came home from school a fortnight ago and I glanced over those three little words, my stomach took a nose dive as I began to process exactly what outfits I might have to conjure up this year. Especially since there have been a lot of hedgehog related books being read in our house lately…It can’t have been 12 months since the last World Book Day. Can it? I mused. I’m sure they’ve shoehorned an extra one in.

So as I braced myself to discover exactly how much time I had to whip up a couple of Oscar-worthy costumes my eyes spotted a word that sent my heart soaring. I read it again. Then again. Then I nearly ran out into the street and did a jig because this year they were not dressing up at all. They were all going in their pyjamas!

Well have I been Mrs Smuggins this week? My friends children who go to a neighbouring school have been nailing all manner of costume demands on their parents, leaving me to mutter, whenever vaguely relevant (or not), that my girls were simply going in their pyjamas. Get me!

Each morning this week I have spotted various elaborate outfits parading past our home including Alice in Wonderland, the Hungry Caterpillar and a particularly uncanny Dorothy, complete with stuffed Toto. But the cherry, or rather the blueberry, on the cake, has got to be the inflatable Violet Beauregarde from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, who literally rolled down the street to school!

Never have I been happier to iron two pairs of Little Lucy Willow pyjamas in my whole life!
